Proverbs 4

Verse 26 of this Proverb is quoted in Hebrews 12:13. In Hebrews, the NIV Study Bible footnote emphasizes that living wisely helps (not hinders) others’ spiritual health, especially those weak in faith. This interpretation goes well with the Proverb’s illustration of making a level path. The ESV says “Ponder the path of your feet” while the NIV says “Make level the path of your feet”. I think the ESV provides a little more context on how to make our path level. Simply giving thought to our choices and aligning them with Jesus’s teachings and the Holy Spirit living in us will go a long way in living wisely. The clue to making wise decisions that most jumped out to me is to base our reasoning on what will help others spiritually (“make a straight path”) and puts their needs before ours.
