Both wisdom and foolishness call out to us daily. How do we know which is which? There are plenty of descriptions of wisdom in chapters 8 & 9, most notably that wisdom begins with the fear of the Lord. Chapter 8:22-31 bring an incredible added dimension to this– God began with wisdom. He didn’t create wisdom, he possessed wisdom from the very beginning. He created everything with wisdom and wisdom rejoiced in God’s creations, even in humans. There is nothing wise that isn’t from the Lord because you can’t separate God and wisdom. “Blessed is the one who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting beside my doors” (8:34). I want to be watching and waiting daily, seeking God and celebrating in his wise and perfect ways. Too many times I listen to foolishness instead, but these two chapters help me refocus by recognizing the wisdom in God’s creation and being.
